North East ISD is electing two of its seven school board seats on the May 2 ballot.
In recent years, its members have been divided between those backed by the parent-teacher groups plus local Democrats, and those backed by conservative groups trying to replicate the success they’ve had across North Texas.
Conservatives were shut out across the board in 2025, leaving just two incumbents who were elected with the support of the right-leaning Parents United for Freedom PAC, Diane Sciba Villarreal and Marsha Landry.
This year Sciba Villarreal is seeking a second term in District 3, while Landry is not, leaving an open race for her District 7 seat.
Unions, Democratic groups dominate spending in NEISD school board races
NEISD uses single-member districts, meaning each candidate represents a specific geographic region. Find out which district you live in here.
Board members serve staggered, four-year terms, and the remaining seats will be up for reelection in 2028.
Early voting runs April 20 through April 28, though polls will be closed on Friday, April 24 for the Battle of Flowers Parade. Polls will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day, Saturday, May 2.

Candidates for North East ISD — District 3
Incumbent Diane Sciba Villarreal, who was elected with the help of a conservative PAC in 2022, is seeking a second four-year term.
This year she faces a challenge from Michael Adam Wulczyn, a forensic accountant who has the backing of a local Democratic group.
Candidates are listed below in the order they’ll appear on the ballot.
Candidates for North East ISD — District 7
Incumbent Marsha Landry, elected in 2022, isn’t seeking a second term. Two candidates are running for her District 7 seat.
Cheryl “Cheri” Ann Eltinger is a realtor who framed the race as “a battle for our children — not just academically, but spiritually, mentally, emotionally,” in a recent social media post.
Her opponent, Caprice Garcia, is now a stay-at-home parent who has held a variety of PTA leadership roles in the district and completed the district’s Leadership Northeast Program, which the administration puts on to train future leaders.
