Please tell voters about yourself.

My husband and I have lived in NEISD District 7 for 21 years. I am a native Houstonian, but San Antonio is home. Before moving, I researched school districts and NEISD was exactly what we were looking for. We knew this is where we wanted our children to receive their education. I am a proud mom of four children and we have three grandchildren. Three of our children graduated from NEISD schools, and our youngest will begin her freshman year at Madison in August.

I bring more than 20 years of public service experience, having worked for both the U.S. House of Representatives and the City of San Antonio. Throughout my career, I have been driven by the same purpose: to listen, to advocate, and to help others. My work allowed me to support our constituents by navigating government departments and agencies on their behalf, ensuring their needs were addressed.

Please describe the relevant work experience you bring to this job and any endorsements voters should note.

For 15 years, I have volunteered in our schools; supporting students, families and staff. I have served as PTA President at Steubing Ranch Elementary and Madison High School and currently on the board at Bradley Middle School and Madison. I served on Campus Improvement Committees at Steubing Ranch and Madison. In 2016, I was appointed to the NEISD School Health Advisory Council. I am a graduate of the Leadership North East program and the North East Council of PTAs ConNEXTions Leadership Course.

I served on the board at Capitol Park Little League as finance committee chair and as Social Committee chair with our Homeowners’ Association. Every position, whether as a volunteer or an employee, has strengthened my ability to lead with integrity and compassion. I am honored to receive the endorsements of Bexar County Federation of Teachers (AFT); North East Education Association (TSTA); San Antonio Central Labor Council (AFLCIO).

Why did you decide to seek this office and how you would approach the role?

I am seeking election to the NEISD School Board because I believe children deserve a safe, supportive, and quality education that prepares them for a bright future. Our schools are the heart of our community, and decisions made by the board directly shape the opportunities our students receive.

My goal is to bring impactful leadership, accountability, and commitment to fairness to every decision. I want to advance our schools with collaborative efforts and open communication. Through strengthening partnerships, we can ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive.

I am running to make a difference in our community. I want to ensure that families are heard, educators are supported, and students-regardless of background-have access to the tools they need to succeed. After 15 years of advocating through PTAs, I felt this was a great opportunity to continue my service to our district in a new and impactful way.

How would you solicit input and feedback from constituents?

The best decisions are made by truly listening to others. It is important to have an open line of communication with families, educators, staff, and with our students. This provides a clear understanding of the needs of our campuses that will ensure all children are receiving a quality education. This also ensures that the actions taken by the board positively impact the community in which it serves. For me, this starts with being present in our district. By attending school events, participating in open forums, engaging on social media and using digital tools to stay connected. I believe that being visible and accessible will build relationships, deepen trust and strengthen our district.

What do you see as the biggest challenges your school district is facing and what strategies would you want to implement as solutions?

The mental health of students continues to be a serious concern at every grade level. Many are struggling with anxiety and stress for a variety of reasons, and they should have access to meaningful support. We must provide resources without hurdles or limitations, so every student can receive the help they need when they need it.

Staff shortages and budget cuts are also issues that add to the challenges our teachers and staff already face. Competitive pay is essential to retain talented employees. Listening to their concerns and opinions shows they are valued. We must maintain a positive work environment and supportive culture for all staff.

The State of Texas continues to pass legislation that is harmful to public schools and our district. As a Trustee, I will continue to communicate with our elected officials sharing how their decisions are affecting our district and fight for fully funded public education.
