The Carlos Alvarez Studio Theater at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts was packed for a dog show on Sunday, but this performance was far from the stuffy Westminster Kennel Club that one might expect. The Olate Dogs, winners of the America’s Got Talent televised talent show, performed tricks that shocked and amazed the crowd. The poodle mixes hopped, danced in unison, twirled, and even jumped rope – often on two legs.

Segments included a fashion show featuring the king himself, Elvis Presley, a newlywed couple soundtracked by Frank Sinatra, and a dog dressed as batman driving a bat mobile on stage – without wrecking. Each dog seemed to have their specialty. Richard Olate and his son Nicholas have spent countless hours working on the dogs’ tricks and behavior. The pooches were in high sprits even when dressed in tight pants, shaking maracas.
