Construction of the Robert L. B. Tobin Land Bridge in Hardberger Park remains on schedule, and so do Wurzbach Parkway lane closures. The city’s Transportation and Capital Improvements (TCI) department updated residents Thursday about the bridge spanning the parkway.
The unique structure, when completed, will link the roadway-bisected halves of Hardberger Park. For now, the far right-hand lanes of the parkway will remain closed in each direction 9 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays.
Sidewalk and bike lanes remain closed. According to the TCI email update, contractors are spending a few more weeks clearing out the work sites on both sides of Wurzbach Parkway.
Site preparation includes protection of remaining trees in the immediate areas and installation of silt fencing.
Construction is expected to be complete in April 2020.
Elsewhere, ongoing major road projects are resulting in lane closures and detours. Here’s a look at a few notable traffic hot spots:
- The northbound Loop 1604 exit ramp for Kitty Hawk Road is closed 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday for barrier placement and excavation work.
- Motorists will see intermittent lane closures in northbound and southbound lanes of Southwest Loop 410 at Marbach Road from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. One lane of eastbound Marbach also will be closed on both sides of Loop 410. This will allow CPS Energy crews to do some utility work on the freeway to accommodate improvements by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
- The westbound to eastbound 1604 turnaround at U.S. 281 will be fully closed for bridge work 9 p.m.-5 a.m. nightly Sunday until March 29. Motorists should take the turnaround at Gold Canyon Drive and use the Redland Road entrance ramp to eastbound 1604.
- Two outside lanes of the Interstate 10 frontage roads at Old Camp Bullis Road will be closed 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday to permit CPS Energy to do some utility work. The interstate itself will be open.
- One eastbound 1604 main lane from Bandera Road to Bitters Road will be closed 9 p.m.-5 a.m. nightly Sunday until March 29 for bridge marking installation work.
- Three southbound I-35 lanes from Toepperwein Road to O’Connor Road will be closed 9 p.m.-5 a.m. nightly Sunday until Tuesday for pavement repairs.
- There are plans for three 15-minute rolling highway closures off northbound and southbound U.S. 281 lanes just south of the Basse Road on-ramp from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Sunday. This will allow CPS Energy to do some utility work.
- The westbound 1604 frontage road from the 281 southbound frontage road to the Stone Oak exit ramp will be fully closed 9 p.m.-5 a.m. nightly Sunday until March 29. Drivers should take the turnaround at 281, continue east and take the Redland Road turnaround, use the Redland Road entrance ramp, and take the Stone Oak Parkway exit ramp.
- The southbound 1604 turnaround at Pat Booker Road will be closed for drill shaft work 5 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. The northbound turnaround at Pat Booker will be closed for the same reason 5 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
- A full lane closure on Interstate 35 in each direction in the Schertz/Cibolo area begins 9 p.m. Tuesday and continues through 6 a.m. Wednesday. This closure will allow the contractor to pour the bridge deck on the main span of the new Farm Road 1103 bridge. The existing 1103 bridge will also be closed during that time.
- CPS Energy will need a closure of one eastbound lane of Wiseman Boulevard west of Texas Highway 151 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through March 29. Utility workers will be busy trending and installing underground infrastructure.
- Similar work by CPS Energy will lead to a closure of a southbound lane of Hardy Oak Boulevard between Sonterra Boulevard and Proton Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through March 29.
