David Beyer is set to be sworn in as a North East Independent School District trustee.

North East Independent School District trustees have appointed David Beyer as the new representative of District 4, which spans the southeast part of the district and contains MacArthur High School.

Beyer will replace Jim Wheat, who resigned to be an associate judge for Bexar County. Wheat stepped down effective Dec. 31 and Beyer is expected to be sworn in next Wednesday.

Beyer, who works as a landscape architect, serves on the North East Educational Foundation board as the chair of a committee that stages a benefit golf tournament and has been involved in the Watch D.O.G.S. school-safety program at Northwood Elementary. He is a graduate of the Leadership North East program.

Beyer’s wife, Brett, is an NEISD graduate and their children attend NEISD schools.

“Since moving to San Antonio in 2003, I have become increasingly involved in the activities of not just the schools my children attend, but also matters affecting the entire district,” Beyer said. “I’m very excited to join a group of outstanding individuals to help shape the future of our district; for the benefit of the students, teachers, administrators, and parents.”

Beyer’s term runs until May 2020.
