North East Independent School District trustee Jim Wheat tendered his resignation from his post on the school board earlier this month to take on the role of associate judge for Bexar County, according to a letter send to parents Wednesday.

Wheat, who has served on NEISD’s board since 2012, said he soon will be appointed as an associate judge of Bexar County’s 289th District Court.

“I am proud of the work that this board has done over the past six years,” Wheat said. “I must also give credit to those I have learned from over this time – each of the trustees with whom I have served, as well as Superintendent Brian Gottardy and his staff.”

Wheat’s resignation will take effect on Dec. 31 and the board will appoint a replacement to serve out the rest of Wheat’s term, which expires in May 2020.
