41st Annual CineFestival
The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center is hosting the 41st annual CineFestival, sponsored by the San Antonio Film Commission, through Sunday. The four-day festival features films that center around the theme “Frontera in Focus.” An all-access pass costs $50, while daytime tickets cost $8 and evening tickets cost $10. The Very Hungry Caterpillar
The classic Eric Carle picture book The Very Hungry Caterpillar comes to life on stage starting Friday night at Magik Theatre to wow audience members with its appetite. Adults and children ages 2 to 17 pay $15 for admission, while active-duty military, educators, and seniors pay $12. Children ages 2 and under may enter for free. The show runs through Aug. 4. Balcones Heights Jazz Festival
The Balcones Heights Jazz Festival kicks off with two opening performances Friday night. Wednesday Ball opens at 7:30 p.m., and Ragan Whiteside performs as Friday’s headliner at 10 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, and the jazz festival will continue every Friday until Aug. 2. Outdoor seating is free but limited, and food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Free Screening: Superman: The Movie
Bring chairs, blankets, snacks, and anything else you might need for a screening of the 1978 film Superman: The Movie at the San Antonio Museum of Art. The screening is free with museum admission. Christopher Reeve stars as the alien hero who was sent to Earth from his dying planet and faces Gene Hackman playing Lex Luthor. The event may be canceled in case of inclement weather. The movie starts at sunset. Please do not bring pets.

San Antonio RoadRunners 40th Annual Women’s Run
The San Antonio RoadRunners running club is celebrating the 40th year of its annual women’s 5K run/walk and 10K. The event is designed to bring the women and girls of San Antonio together through fitness and fun. If you’ve already registered online, you can pick up your packet from noon to 6 p.m. Friday outside the H-E-B at the Shops at Lincoln Heights. You can also register in-person there or on race day from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. The 5K costs $40, and the 10K costs $50. The Girls Fun Run for 10-year-olds and younger is free. Inclusion Programming at Hemisfair
Children and adults can get in touch with their senses at experience stations this Saturday at Hemisfair. Pet therapy dogs and llamas (yes, therapy llamas), listen to a story being read aloud, taste strawberry lemonade, and feel water beads in a sensory activity. Bring kids of all ages and abilities for exposure to art, technology, purposeful movement, and more.

I Spy – A Scavenger Hunt
Madame Fancypants needs the help of some youthful detectives to find her treasured paintings. Searchers at Villa Finale Museum and Gardens will get a pair of binoculars to find photo clues on their maps. Once all clues have been found, detectives must solve the puzzle to solve the mystery. There are two age categories for scavenger hunters: 5 to 8 years of age, and 9 to 12 years of age. Parents or guardians must accompany their children throughout the event. The nonprofit Inner City Development is hosting its annual Friendship Festival this Saturday to raise money for its services and programs. Sci-Fest
The sci-fi festival is back again all weekend with 100 different vendors, performances, and more entertainment options for the whole family. There are various craft classes to sign up for, including a Mothra painting class on Saturday at 1 p.m. Noelle Hannibal – who has credits in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Star Trek, and Ellen – will be stopping by to say hi on Friday and Saturday. Expect to see special guest James C. Leary, who played Clem on Buffy. The convention is free to attend.

Paella Sunday
Want to learn how to make paella? Or just want to buy some to eat? For the aspiring chefs, $42 gets you into a 9 a.m. paella-making class, which includes half a pound of paella and a glass of sangria. Paella-purchasers can buy half a pound for $14 and $25 for a pound on Sunday, but placing orders before then will get you a slight discount ($12 and $22, respectively). National Mac and Cheese Day at Traders Village
Traders Village is celebrating National Mac and Cheese Day with a variety of takes on the American classic. Customers can buy regular mac and cheese, Cajun mac and cheese with crawfish, mac and cheese with chili, and mac and cheese with hot dogs. There will be live music for the family to enjoy, and a craft table with free activities for kids. There will also be a free photo booth, with unlimited picture taking for guests. Cocktail Scavenger Hunt: Taste the Tropics
The San Antonio Botanical Garden continues its scavenger hunt series with a tropical-themed hunt. Guests will be given maps of the garden and instructed to find ingredients such as lemongrass and chilies. Once you locate the ingredient, take a picture, and keep going until all items have been found and photographed. Trade your photographic proof of a successful scavenger hunt for a seasonal cocktail and a four-course tasting menu. Tickets cost $25 for nonmembers and $22.50 for members. Buy tickets here.
