Ahead of the November midterm elections, the Rivard Report invited invested parties to provide commentaries and share their points of view with voters. All commentaries are presented in original form with basic editing and fact-checking.
The three propositions proposed by the fire union are among the most hotly debated items on the November ballot. The proposed charter amendments are:
- Prop A, which would make it easier for residents to put proposed ordinances and financial decisions to a public vote;
- Prop B, which would limit future city managers’ salaries and tenure; and
- Prop C, which would force binding arbitration between the union and the City on a new labor contract.
But how would the passage of these propositions affect citizens’ everyday lives? Blayne Tucker, a local attorney and small business owner, and Ashley Smith, San Antonio architect and LGBTQIA rights advocate, offer their opinions.

Ashley serves on city committee that serves diversity. Although I believe her intentions are good I think she has had too much cool aide. Blayne to my knowledge has no ties to the city.
Joleen, Someone on another post mentioned something about a commission he was a part of. I think it was the Tricentential Commission. Blaine comes across as a Libertarian. He’s not. I would like to hear from one.
