Travis Park will be hosting several events between now and April, just in time for residents and visitors alike to take to the park and enjoy the spring weather. It’s been just two years since the downtown park at 301 E. Travis St. was transformed from a dull, uninviting area to a dynamic gathering space. A list has been compiled to feature the park’s various events and performances.
Ballet in the Park
Saturday, March 12, from 6-8 p.m.
Ballet San Antonio will take to the park with performances for its 3rd Annual Ballet in the Park series, which is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets for seating.
St. Paddy’s Day Food Truck Throw Down
Thursday, March 17, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
San Antonians are invited to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Travis Park, where there will be live entertainment and St. Paddy’s games for all ages. The following food trucks will be on site for hungry guests: Cheesy Jane’s, Bustro Bistro, Rock on Wheels, Big Mike’s, Fajita Rita’s, Black Knights, Mi Taquito, and Drake’s Fun Foods.
Zumba Party in the Park
Saturday, March 19, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Gold’s Gym will bring a free, fun day of Zumba to Travis Park, offering classes for participants of all ages and Zumba level. The Zumba Party is free and open to the public.
An Evening in Travis Park
Tuesday, March 29, from 5-8 p.m.
In honor of iconic artist Vincent Van Gogh’s birthday on March 30, San Antonio residents are invited to participate in a special evening of painting in the park, where attendees will paint Van Gogh’s “Sunflower” under the instruction of artists from Pinot’s Palette.
Dinner en Blanc
Friday, April 1, from 6-9 p.m.
Travis Park will host its second Dinner en Blanc in celebration of the second anniversary of the park’s revitalization efforts.
The family-friendly event will adorn the park with all-white tables, chairs, and décor as a nod to the annual Parisian gathering “Diner en Blanc” which has grown to take place in cities around the world. Though the event is free and open to the public, organizers do have one condition: everyone must wear white.
“We really want people to come out and enjoy a picnic in the park to support the park’s programming and commemorate its second anniversary,” said Kelly Kapaun, public relations manager of the Center City Development and Operations Department.
All visitors are encouraged to bring their own picnic basket dinners, but can also purchase meals from participating food trucks or pre-order dinner baskets from Nectar Wine Bar & Ale House by calling 210-375-4082. Advance table reservations, which start at $125 per table, are available for parties of four or more and include drink tickets and front row seating for the event’s programming.
To make a table reservation, call 210-207-7819. All proceeds from reservations will fund future Travis Park programming. Any unreserved tables will be available for guests on a first-come, first-served basis, but all visitors are encouraged to bring their own blankets or chairs for seating.
This year’s attendees will be able to enjoy pop-up entertainment throughout the night, including performances by Ballet San Antonio and a string quartet, as well as aerialist and magic demonstrations. CCDO still has an open call out for artists who are interested in contributing their talents to the event, Kapaun added. Event-goers will also have the opportunity to contribute to an interactive art piece by Pinot’s Palette, where interested community members will be instructed to paint one part of a large canvas to be completed by the end of the night.
A yoga and meditation lounge sponsored by Mobile Om will be on site as another way to kick back and relax that evening, and bike parking will be provided by The Kickstand SA. There will also be a DJ and a special visit from the Spurs Coyote.
