Two Bexar County Democrats are facing a runoff election for José Menéndez’ seat in House District 124 – Ina Minjarez and Delicia Herrera.
Menéndez vacated the House seat after winning a runoff election to fill former Sen. Leticia Van de Putte’s Senate District 26 seat. Van de Putte is now running for mayor.
Attorney Minjarez won 42% of the vote, but she needed more than 50% of the 1,981 votes to take the seat. Herrera, a former city council member, received 28% of the vote. Firefighter Nathan Alonzo just missed the runoff, receiving about 24% of the vote, and Insurance Agent David Rosa finished last with 6%.
An abysmal 2% of registered voters actually voted.
Gov. Greg Abbott will set a runoff date later this month.
The district is one of 10 that make up Bexar County’s delegation in the Texas House.
