What started in 2008 as a small, in-house brewery and restaurant on the Northside of San Antonio, Freetail Brewing Co., has expanded operations to 2000 S. Presa St. on the Southside.
Anything but micro, Freetail is brewing enough beer to distribute all over San Antonio in its 30,000-square-foot facility. I spent time with brewmasters Corey McCart, Raimey Roberts, Jason Davis, and Nicholas Adcock while making a batch of Bat Outta Helles, a German-style golden lager. Everyone has a specific job to do in the belly of the brewery, each requiring a high amount of precision. It can be hard work, but you can see the focus and love of the craft on their faces.
With businesses right up the road such as The Friendly Spot already receiving a variety of Freetail beer, things seem to be going well. Interested customers can also stop by the tasting room, which opened this weekend.
