Dog owners and their canine friends began the 17th annual Fiesta Pooch Parade at the Alamo Heights Swimming Pool and made their way through Alamo Heights on a 2.6 mile route. Many residents sat on lawns and porches to watch the entourage of poodles, chihuahuas, greyhounds, labradors and other mixed dog breeds pass.

Participants lined up early with their four-legged friends to be part of the “Canine Costume Contest.” This year seemed to carry a superhero theme with Superman or “Superdog” making an appearance alongside Captain America and the Incredible Hulk. The star of the parade, however, was definitely the owner that had his two dogs dressed as the American outlaws Bonnie and Clyde.

The parade is sponsored by Therapy Animals of San Antonio, a nonprofit, all volunteer organization. Their mission statement is “bringing people and animals together for healing.”
