A peaceful but emotional afternoon protest over the death of George Floyd while in Minneapolis police custody took a violent turn Saturday after dark when people began vandalizing and looting downtown businesses.

Police used tear gas to disperse the crowds and arrested six people on various charges, including assault and rioting. Rivard Report Photo Editor Scott Ball documented the protest and its violent aftermath, but his camera containing images of some of the events leading up to the outbreak of violence was stolen by individuals in the crowd as Ball tried to document the increasing mayhem.
