With the Easter weekend fast approaching, there are not many events that are coordinated for today and tomorrow (though the Fiesta Carnival I mentioned on Wednesday is in full effect). Consequently, I’m going to combine both Thursday and Friday together here in this one post. But be sure to check back Saturday morning because there is a lot to look forward to this weekend!
Fiesta Especiál
This Thursday-only event at the Alamodome Parking Lot C from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. is designed to give Fiesta to all age and abilities. Fiesta Especiál provides accommodations for people with disabilities so that everyone can enjoy the rides, games and fun. Having volunteered at this event in the past, I can say that it is truly heartwarming to see everyone get to participate. All children are welcome to this event, and the joy on their faces really captures the Fiesta spirit. Please note: there is no alcohol or tobacco use at this event.
Fairytale Fiesta
Each year The Witte Museum has a special Fiesta exhibit and this year is no different. Step inside the museum to go on a Fairytale Fiesta with different Fiesta gowns on display that are inspired by fairytales, myths and magic. This year’s featured dress is from 1941 and has a depiction of Atlantis. The exhibition opens on Thursday, lasts through the duration of Fiesta and is free with admission to The Witte.
Fiesta Pops
Get your grito warmed up, Friday is the beginning of the two-day engagement of the San Antonio Symphony at the Majestic for Fiesta Pops. There will be music from both the symphony and popular recording artist Little Joe y La Famalia as well as traditional Folklórico and Flamenco dance from the Guadalupe Dance Company. Tickets are available online and start at $23 for adults ($16 for children) with the show starting at 8 p.m. Medal collectors will have a chance to purchase the San Antonio Symphony’s 2014 Fiesta medal for $10 at the show as well!
Tejano Explosion
Los Lonely Boys bring their fusion of Tejano, rock and soul to the stage at Cattleman’s Square this Friday night as the headliners that evening for Tejano Explosion. Tickets are $18 and include opening acts Los Garcia Bros. and the Liberty Band. If you want to save a couple of bucks, be sure to print off this coupon.
Let Garrett know about your favorite Fiesta event, awesome unofficial party or where he can find medals by emailing him at fiesta@saflavor.com.
