Fiesta Cornyation officials have announced that two Kings Anchovy will rule in April 2016, a first in the organization’s history, which dates to 1951. Wayne Beers and Michael Bobo, co-owners of W. D. Deli, will lead the festivities as Kings Anchovy LI.
“They’re saying that there are crowns in our future! We are so excited at the thought of participating in Cornyation 2016 as Kings Anchovy,” Bobo said in a recent Facebook post. “Cornyation has always been one of our favorite things about Fiesta. We can’t wait! This is going to be insane!”
Cornyation has become one of the most popular events and hardest ticket to score during Fiesta San Antonio. The six performances sell out quickly each year. The event satirizes local and national politicians, big shots, celebrities, and journalists. No one is safe.
It’s all good fun for a great cause. Cornyation benefits San Antonians living with HIV or affected by the disease. Since it became a nonprofit organization, Cornyation has donated more than $2 million to local charities. The organization also established the Robert Rehm Scholarship, which grants college scholarships to local students who major in Theatre Arts.
Cornyation gave $90,000 each to the San Antonio AIDS Foundation and BEAT AIDS this year. The four Robert Rehm scholarship students received $20,000 for their education.
Beers and Bobo, who were married Dec. 28, 2011 in New York City, have a history as human rights advocates and contributors to efforts of the local LGBT scene . They were awarded the Community Ally Award from the local chapter of the Human Rights Campaign in 2014.

Beers and Bobo are the second royal couple in Cornyation history, Steve and Jody Newman, co-owners of the Friendly Spot Ice House served as King and Queen Anchovy during Fiesta 2014.
