After getting his master's degree from Georgetown University, he worked in the District of Columbia government and on President Joe Biden's 2020 campaign. More recently he worked as an executive at Rebuilding Together Houston, a nonprofit.

Hassan is a businessman who lives in Katy. He emigrated from Egypt in 1984 and ran for Harris County judge in 2022.

Gonzalez served as Nueces County district attorney in Corpus Christi from 2016 to 2023. He earned his law degree from St. Mary's University before being elected as DA. He describes himself as a "tatooed Tejano lawyer."
