Our Earth angel, Yolanda DeHoyos, born January 13, 1943, was the matriarch of our family. She was a daughter, a sister, a mother to many – including her five siblings, an aunt, an abuela, and a great-grandmother.

From a young age, Yolanda stepped into a mother figure role for her siblings – and at times even for her parents. A natural caregiver and nurturer, Yolanda later entered the medical field at a women’s clinic. She served in the field for 36 years as an office manager, counselor, and registered medical assistant in a variety of women’s clinics in San Antonio, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Wichita Falls, Texas.

Passionate about helping women of all ages with health issues and empowering them to know their health rights, including abortion rights, Yolanda was a strong advocate for women most of her life.

Born with the gift of healing hands and learning from her great-grandmother, a curandera, from a young age, our mother dreamed of becoming a certified naturista. In 1997, she fulfilled that dream. She helped and healed many people through natural medicine and spiritual guidance.

Yolanda was a positive light in this world, illuminating any space she occupied with her infectious smile and magnetic aura. One would never know that she suffered through a turbulent 20-year marriage and lived with back pain from scoliosis and spina bifida.

Our mom was strong-willed, determined, a fighter, nurturer, counselor, caregiver, healer, teacher, and servant of God. She instilled these values in her three children, Glenn, Libby, and Gina. And that is the legacy they’ve committed to continue – to serve others, give without expecting anything in return, and love unconditionally.

I will leave you with some of her words of wisdom (in her handwriting):
