The 2016 presidential election season may be over, with President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration day approaching on Jan. 20, but San Antonians can expect another heated election in 2017: the race for mayor.

Incumbent Mayor Ivy Taylor launched her re-election campaign in November, and District 8 City Councilman Ron Nirenberg – who has often found himself at odds with Taylor – officially threw his hat into the race in early December. Manuel Medina, Bexar County Democratic Party chairman, will likely be a third contender for the mayor’s seat.

Councilman Rey Saldaña (D4) recently announced his re-election bid for District 4 Councilman, putting an end to rumors that he, too, would run for mayor.
