As COVID-19 cases remain at high levels, San Antonio and Bexar County continue to expand testing capacity to meet demand driven by the rapid spread of the omicron variant.

“We’re seeing long lines for reliable testing across the city,” said City Councilwoman Melissa Cabello Havrda (D6) in a prepared statement. “Employers and schools are requiring proof of testing and the D6 team has been working hard to meet the needs in the district.”

After setting up testing facilities last week, Havrda’s office has extended availability through the weekend at Edgewood Theater of Performing Arts, 402 Lance St. Testing begins Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. and continues until supplies run out. Residents ages 5 and older are eligible for testing and no appointment is needed.

Although there are free testing sites that are open Saturday and Sunday, most require an appointment, and a check Friday afternoon indicated no appointments were available this weekend. For a full list of testing locations, including those where a fee is required, click here.

The following free test sites will be open on Saturday and/or Sunday:

  • Center of Advanced Wellness, 8723 Botts Lane, Saturday only, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Center of Advanced Wellness, 3107 TPC Parkway, Saturday only, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Yes No COVID, 4747 Fredericksburg Rd., Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (appointment optional)

Most of the free testing facilities operated by Curative and Community Labs will be open Monday on the federal holiday, including the newest mass testing location at the Wonderland of the Americas mall that opened Friday. Located on the mall’s first floor, it will be open Monday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.

On Monday, Metro Health will host a pop-up clinic offering both testing and COVID-19 vaccines from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Davis-Scott Family YMCA, located at 1213 Iowa St.

Beginning Tuesday, the Alamodome will offer free COVID-19 testing. The site will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Feb. 4, but will be closed on Jan. 22, 28 and 29 because of previously scheduled events. To schedule an appointment, which is required, click here.
