Ezekiel Mitchell isn’t your average 24-year-old.

Mitchell, from the Central Texas town of Rockdale, rides bulls for a living and has said he won’t be satisfied with his career until he wins the Professional Bull Riders World Championship — something only one other Black bull rider has done, nearly 40 years ago.

At age 14, Mitchell turned to YouTube videos to learn how to ride and used a 55-gallon drum to hone his skills before his father finally gave him permission to pursue his dream of riding professionally.

Mitchell talked to the San Antonio Report during the Professional Bull Riders’ tour stop at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.
