Hundreds gathered at the Pearl Stable on Wednesday, July 6, for the opening night of the Pearl’s third annual Summer Dance Hall Series.

Every Wednesday, from now until August 24, an array of South Texas musicians, including legends like Santiago JiménezGeorge Chambers, and the Country Gentlemen, will perform for dancing crowds of all ages. For a lineup of this year’s musicians for the series, click here.

Attendees can enjoy a variety of musical genres like South Texas Swing, Conjunto, Polka, Dixieland, Bolero and Classic Hill Country. The goal is to revitalize the rich history of South Texas music and dance.

“We’ve lost to a certain degree the Dance Hall tradition,” said Summer Dance Hall Series Coordinator and San Antonio jazz musician Doc Watkins. “We wanted to do anything we could to keep it alive.”

The Dance Hall Series is free and open to the public. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and music starts at 6 p.m.
