Following over a year of campaigns, primary elections, runoffs, and finally, the general election, Republican Trish DeBerry and Democrat Rebeca Clay-Flores have cemented their places in Bexar County history.

Clay-Flores, who beat four-term incumbent Sergio “Chico” Rodriguez in the July primary runoff, and then Republican Gabriel Lara in the general election, is the first woman of color elected to the court. DeBerry won her runoff election against former county probate Judge Tom Rickhoff in July, then defeated Democratic challenger Christine Hortick in the general election. She is the first woman elected to represent Precinct 3.

The San Antonio Report spent time with each candidate in the days leading up to the general election and through election night.
