San Antonio’s City Council District 9 encompasses the city’s far North side, starting north of Loop 410.
Longtime Councilman John Courage (D9) is leaving the seat to run for mayor and seven candidates are vying to replace him. If no candidate takes at least 50% of the vote on May 3, the top two finishers will advance to a June 7 runoff .

Council members elected this year will serve a four-year term, thanks to new longer council limits approved by voters in November.
The job will pay $70,200 per year.
