USAA Chief Operating Officer Stuart Parker will succeed CEO Josue “Joe” Robles when he retires at the end of February after seven-years as CEO and 20 years total with the financial services and insurance company.
“After serving USAA’s membership in numerous capacities for the past 16 years, I’m deeply honored and humbled to be selected to lead this great organization,” Parker said in a statement.
Parker joined USAA in 1998 after completing his MBA at St. Mary’s University and was the company’s finance chief from 2012- 2014. He became USAA’s first COO in May.
San Antonio-based USAA, one of the city’s largest private-sector employers, serves current and former military members and their families. Founded in 1922 by 25 Army officers, USAA’s administration and leadership positions are consistently occupied by veterans.
“Having worked with Stuart for many years, I know he’s ideally suited to lead USAA forward,” said Robles, retired Major General, U.S. Army. “Stuart was instrumental in building USAA’s financial advice capabilities, growing our flagship P&C line of business, and then managing our financial, strategic and operational planning. He’s also a veteran and a military spouse. He knows what it means to serve.”
USAA provided this brief biography of its new CEO:
“Parker is a graduate of Georgia’s Valdosta State University with a degree in business administration and is a distinguished graduate from the Air Force ROTC program. He entered the EURO-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas and became an instructor pilot flying T-38 aircraft. While at Sheppard, he also became a Wing Flight Examiner. Parker went on to graduate from aircraft commander school for the C-141 Starlifter and was stationed at Charleston, S.C. He flew the C-141 in combat missions during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.”
USAA Capital Corp. President Carl Liebert will replace Parker as COO effective immediately.
About 17,000 USAA employees work at the company’s headquarters, which has its own zip code (78288) in northeast San Antonio near Wurzbach Road and IH-10. Combined with its other locations – including offices in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, London, and Germany – it had nearly 26,000 total employees at the start of 2014 serving more than 10.4 million clients.
