Coffee lovers from across Bexar County showed up to Merit Roasting Co. to participate and spectate for the first Thursday Night Throwdown (TNT), a competition between baristas to make the most symmetrical and decorative latte. The contest depends on the aptitude and proficiency of the three staples in latte design: the heart, the tulip, and the rosetta. With a $5 entrance fee and one dream to be made, these coffee aficionados poured their hearts out all night while fans clutched onto cups of draft beer provided by Merit’s neighbors, Freetail Brewing. The coffee was judged by three coffee connoisseurs and live streamed for the masses. The next TNT will be held at midtown’s Rosella Coffee.
