Lots of Día de los Muertos events going on this weekend for the solemn yet celebratory holiday. Our story has details for events not listed here.

It’s also First Friday, the monthly art crawl in, around and beyond the Blue Star Arts Complex, with art shows opening and closing.

A death-themed show, Mementomorium closes at Space C7 on the South Side with a reception from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

A newish art space, Cactus Barn, hosts a solo show by sculptor Chris Sauter with an opening reception, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Esperanza Peace and Justice Center celebrates Día de Muertos, Friday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at its cozy Rinconcito de Esperanza. The free event features altares and ofrendas, a performance by Conjunto Heritage Taller, tapetes de aserrín and a procession through the Alazan Courts neighborhood.

Artist Audrya Flores uses natural materials to craft her outdoor sculptures, including an altar installation on view at Ruby City through the weekend. A free public reception Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. celebrates Flores.

Stop by the Pearl over the weekend to see artist Regina Moya’s Tzompantli skull-rack art installation featuring 30 hand-painted skulls, and artist Mauro de la Tierra’s large alebrijes made from recycled materials. A full slate of Día de los Muertos events runs 5 p.m. top 9 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Catch a breath of fresh November air at NatureFest, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m Saturday at Mission County Park, presented by the Green Spaces Alliance of South Texas.

Then Saturday night starting at 8 p.m., local music fans can celebrate the new album release of Garrett T. Capps & NASA Country at the Lonesome Rose.
