Friday was the last lunch service for the Pearl’s Sandbar Fish House & Market. The restaurant announced its permanent closure Friday afternoon.
As reported by the San Antonio Express-News, the Pearl’s Chief Marketing Officer Elizabeth Fauerso said in a statement that both the Pearl and restaurateur Andrew Weissman arrived at the joint decision to close the establishment to make way for other “exciting new possibilities for the space.”
Both the Express-News and the San Antonio Current reported that Weissman’s other restaurant at the Pearl, Il Sogno Osteria, will continue to operate as usual.
The Sandbar opened at the Pearl in 2009, but was first established at 152 E. Pecan St., next to Weissman’s acclaimed restaurant Le Rêve. The Sandbar’s menu focused mainly on seafood, paired with a varied wine list.
“After 14 years in operation, I feel like The Sandbar has run its course,” Weissman stated in a press release. “I want to honor the role that Sandbar has played in the San Antonio culinary community and say thank you to all of our loyal customers.”

Although Weissman has said goodbye to one of his restaurants at the Pearl, he has other establishments in operation, such as The Luxury on 103 Jones Ave. near the San Antonio Museum of Art, and he has many new restaurant concepts in the works.

Coming this fall, he will open Signature, an upscale restaurant rooted in French traditions with South Texas accents, at La Cantera Hill Country Resort & Spa.

“I think (Signature) is the most exciting restaurant that (will show up) in San Antonio,” Weissman told the Rivard Report in June. “It has the potential to have a transformative impact on the city.”
In addition, Weissman announced he will open a laid back sandwich joint called Max n’ Ella’s on the corner of South Alamo and St. Mary’s streets, as well as a downtown location of Moshe’s Golden Falafel on East Houston Street and another Moshe’s in the Historic King William District.
Also coming downtown is a long awaited 24-hour diner on the ground floor of the Travis Park Plaza Building at 711 Navarro St. Weissman hopes the diner will tap into customers based in the urban core and the emerging tech district, creating a convenient dining option once the sun goes down.
