In celebration of the San Antonio Spurs’ fifth NBA championship, the San Antonio community will converge downtown for a river parade along the San Antonio River.

The river parade will begin Wednesday at 6 p.m., as fans cheer on the reigning champs as they float down in river in barges along with former players, coaches, and city and county officials. Fans who wish to reserve seats along the river banks will be allowed to do so starting at 4 p.m. If you want to get close, come early, as thousands of people are expected to show.

The San Antonio Police Department will likely be using similar strategies implemented during Sunday’s celebration.

The parade will kick off with music and announcements at the Arneson River Theatre, continuing through the Rivercenter extension, and conclude at the Convent Street Bridge.

After the parade, a special ceremony at the Alamodome will begin at 9 p.m. Spurs players, coaches, and city officials will address the fans and show off the fifth championship trophy.

This route bears similarity to 2007’s championship parade route, following the Spurs’ victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.  The 2007 parade attracted thousands of fans dressed head-to-toe in silver and black as they congratulated the team and watched replays of the game on the jumbo screen at the Alamodome.

Due to security measures, fans will not be able to bring ice chests, alcoholic beverages, chairs, glass containers, shopping bags, packages, or silly string to either event.

For those individuals who wish to arrive early to gather seats for ceremony at the Alamodome, doors will open at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, where the river parade and celebration will be broadcast as well as highlights from the Spurs 2014 championship.

Those planning on attending Wednesday evening’s festivities are encouraged to take advantage of the VIA Park & Ride service, a $5 round trip ticket, which will be available in parking lots 6 and 7 at the AT&T Center which has no public parking.

Shuttles will drops fans off at Alamo and Market streets beginning at 3:30 p.m. for the river parade or for the ceremony at the Alamodome. The shuttles will also be providing service back to the AT&T center from Alamo and Market until 8 p.m. and services from the Alamodome until one hour after the ceremony ends.

  1. on the spurs site it said that the parade ended on the Navarro bridge. I think your route makes more sense, but are you double-super-positive that this will continue up the main channel?
