San Antonio becoming a more progressive, younger city. Photo submitted by Kari Denise.

With the NBA Finals underway, San Antonio will have the attention of the national media for the next week or so.  The whole country gets a glimpse of San Antonio, but all to often they only see stock video of those tired clichés when the games are cutting to or returning from a commercial break.

Every city has their clichés, for us it’s the River Walk, mariachis, and The Alamo. While all those things are important to our city’s history and culture, they only represent a fraction of what really defines us. We at The Rivard Report work really hard to document the evolving San Antonio, one where the momentum has swung in favor of a more creative and progressive city.

So we asked our readers to send us pictures of the places they think these stations should use to demonstrate the true culture of our city. The response was puro. See photos in the gallery above.

Keep ’em coming. Shine a light on your favorite dive restaurant, local get-away, or cultural center that best represents San Antonio by sending us a picture on facebook or twitter using the hashtag #keepsareal – a nod to the Keep SA Real movement and T-shirts designed by local creative studio Heavy Heavy.

Oh, and, Go Spurs Go.
