This year’s official New Year’s Eve celebration in San Antonio will take over Market Street, Villita Way and Civic Park at Hemisfair with more celebrations at a simultaneous event — CelebrateSA on the River — at the Arneson River Theatre.

The annual New Year’s Eve party, CelebrateSA, is hosted by the City of San Antonio and the San Antonio Parks Foundation, the nonprofit arm of the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department.

This year’s “Dancing in the Streets” theme is the same as last year’s, but this year’s event is slightly different: There are three main stages for live entertainment instead of two, and the event is expanding into the new Civic Park. It’s also moving around the corner to Market Street between South Alamo Street and the Grand Hyatt due to ongoing construction on South Alamo Street, but the fireworks show will still take place over the Tower of the Americas.

San Antonio mobile club SoundCream Airstream will transform Civic Park into a “Disco Picnic,” a New Year’s Eve garden party where DJ Flacucho of Trópicasa will play a disco-heavy house music set before Príncipe Q of Kumbia All Starz incites a “Puro San Antonio dance party,” according to a press release.

People who want to shimmy into the new year can dance with Studio Avi SA — a San Antonio dance fitness and training studio that will bring the theme to life — and enjoy live music and entertainment, carnival rides and attractions, food and artisan vendors and alcoholic beverages.

A diverse range of music genres will come from the Michelob Ultra Main Stage on Market Street: San Antonio alternative pop four-piece Jefferson Clay, San Antonio modern rock trio Pop Pistol, pop soul singer and environmental activist Shannon Sionna and Latin disco DJ Cósmicaa.

A short walk away from Civic Park, revelers can explore an intersection of Latin and American music at the Arneson River Theatre: DJ Joaquin Muerte and Vanita Leo and San Antonio cumbia funk big band Bombasta brings Chicano music and Cumbia to the Arneson stage on the River Walk.

The schedule of events starts at 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 and continues through 11:59 p.m., but San Antonians who celebrate at home can livestream the event starting at 10:30 p.m. on Channel News4 San Antonio. Telemundo also will livestream CelebrateSA for its “Bienvenido 2024” show on the River Walk starting at 11 p.m.

“We’re delighted to showcase San Antonio’s diverse talent and culture on the eve of 2024, surrounded by the San Antonio community,” said Mary Jane Verette, president of the parks foundation.

If you’re planning to go, arrive early to secure a spot on the lawn for the fireworks show.
