The San Antonio Board of Realtors (SABOR) announced Wednesday that Gilbert Gonzalez has been named CEO of the organization following the sudden ouster of Shane Johnson earlier this month.

Gonzalez, formerly vice president of risk management and general counsel at SABOR, had served as interim CEO after Angela Shields departed last September following seven years of leadership at SABOR, and before Johnson was hired in June.

“Gilbert has displayed an unwavering commitment and dedication to SABOR’s staff, mission, and vision,” stated Lorena Peña, chairman of the board. “Gilbert is a native San Antonian and already has a strong track record with SABOR. His knowledge of the community and his experience with SABOR make him uniquely qualified to lead the organization.”

During his six-year tenure at SABOR, Gonzalez supervised the association’s government affairs team and was responsible for providing legal interpretations of existing and new legislation while representing the board’s interests at stakeholder meetings.

Prior to joining SABOR, Gonzalez served as a staff attorney for the Bexar County Courts Administration and also worked as an assistant district attorney in the District Attorney’s Office. He holds bachelor’s and law degrees from St. Mary’s University.

“I am honored to represent the members of SABOR at a local, state and national level,” Gonzalez said. “The growth of San Antonio and surrounding areas makes this an exciting time to be part of the real estate community. SABOR will continue to play an integral role for our members, who are dedicated to building a stronger community.”

SABOR is the largest professional association in San Antonio, representing nearly 11,000 local and regional realtors and real estate professionals across nine counties.
