Randolph Field Independent School District Superintendent Lance Johnson told staff Friday he plans to leave the 1,467-student military district for a new superintendent job outside of Fort Worth at the end of the fall semester.
Under Johnson’s leadership, RFISD became one of the highest-ranked school systems in Bexar County and in the state, scoring an A for the past two years on Texas’ accountability system.
Randolph Field ISD is located in Northwest San Antonio and serves military children at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph.
“Our district has seen many changes in the past seven years. Our students, families, and staff have taken risks in the name of progress, and have come out on the other side victorious. We are in the people business, and the people here are second to none,” Johnson wrote in an e-mail to RFISD staff. “I am humbled to announce that my family has been offered a new position, and we will be leaving Randolph Field after the semester. We have prayed diligently for God’s guidance, and feel this is the best move for us.”
Trustees will discuss Johnson’s planned exit at a meeting on Tuesday.
The board first hired Johnson in April 2013 to replace retiring Superintendent Billy Walker. Previously, Johnson served as superintendent in Warren and Evant ISDs.
The board of Peaster ISD, located west of Fort Worth, announced Johnson as the lone finalist for superintendent last week, according to the Weatherford Democrat. Peaster ISD enrolls 1,224 students at three campuses. It was rated an A district by the Texas Education Agency.
