Hook, who grew up in South Texas and the Hill Country, is a biological scientist. She holds a doctorate in animal behavior from Cornell University and has worked at the National Institutes of Health. Most recently, she worked as a biologist at the U.S. Government Accountability Office, moving back to Texas in 2022.
