Building on the success of its popular Saturday Farmers Market, the Pearl announced Wednesday it will host a Sunday Farmers Market starting Sunday March 22 with more than 20 area farmers and vendors already committed. The Sunday market will be staged in Pearl Plaza in front of the historic Pearl Brewhouse, which will be open to the public for the first time.
The Sunday market will be staged from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and “will feature local, seasonal produce, grass-fed meats, eggs, herbs, specialty foods, cook-to-order foods, and more,” according to the Pearl press release. Live music also will be on the menu each Sunday, hosted by San Antonio jazz great Brent “Doc” Watkins, who will bring on musicians offering jazz, folk, and Latin flair. Watkins will take the stage himself once each month.
“Nearing our sixth year of operation, it was perfect timing for the Pearl Farmers Market to expand to Sunday. There was support among vendors, tenants, and the local community to make it happen,” said Elizabeth Fauerso, chief marketing officer at Pearl. “The additional day offers opportunity to expand vendor business and for shoppers to access local products found at Saturday’s market. Sundays have already become a popular day at Pearl and those who come now can add market shopping to their list of things to do.”
Fauerso said all the vendors are from within a 150-mile radius of San Antonio: Braune Farm, Byccombe Natural Solutions by Springfield Farm, CrepeLandia, Glenewinkel Farm, Gretchen Bee Ranch, HGD Foods, Humble House Foods, Image Lavender Farm, La Hacienda Products, Ms. Chocolatier, Mother Culture, My Father’s Farm, Ottmers Family Farm, Parker Creek Ranch, Poteet Country Winery, Restaurant Gwendolyn, Shudde Ranch, Sol y Luna, South Texas Heritage Pork, and Yapa Empanadas.
Sunday dining options for Pearl visitors include Arcade Midtown Kitchen, Bakery Lorraine, Boiler House, Green Vegetarian Cuisine, Il Sogno and La Gloria.
The newly renovated Pearl Plaza will showcase more of the site’s history with a display of artifacts, including the foundation made from repurposed tanks, the shade structure made from part of Pearl’s original boiler system and various reused masonry and stonework.
The Saturday Pearl Farmers Market opened May 16, 2009 and operates from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The new Hotel Emma in the former brewery is scheduled to open later this year and the nearby Southerleigh Fine Food and Brewery also is set to open soon.
