Located four hours south of San Antonio, the Rio Grande Valley is one of the most vibrant, unique areas in all of Texas. While it is a place its residents feel proud to call home, it possesses many healthcare challenges for its citizens.

Communities in the Rio Grande Valley are some of the most impoverished in the state. Obesity and diabetes present some of the biggest issues, along with a lack of access to care and a high uninsured rate.

Through direct services and strategic partnerships, Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas – a private, faith-based not-for-profit dedicated to creating access to care for uninsured and low-income families – has made great strides in positively affecting healthcare outcomes in the Rio Grande Valley. Health education and counseling are offered in areas where it is needed most, and partnerships among local organizations are creating collaborative change in the “RGV.”
