The Where I Live series aims to showcase our diverse city and region by spotlighting its many vibrant neighborhoods. Each week a local resident invites us over and lets us in on what makes their neighborhood special. Have we been to your neighborhood yet? Get in touch to share your story. If your story is selected and published, you will receive a $250 stipend.
San Antonio has been my place of residence since birth, while my husband, Beto, is from Los Fresnos, near Brownsville, and has lived in San Antonio for the past 10 years. Both of us attended the University of Texas at San Antonio for our undergraduate degrees and are proud Roadrunners.
We met through friends as we were finishing school in 2014. Together we adopted two American Staffordshire Terriers from San Antonio Pets Alive, one in 2015 and the other in 2016. We eventually got married in 2018, and when we bought our house and moved into our beloved Park Forest neighborhood in 2019, we knew it was home.
Park Forest is such a beautiful neighborhood with gorgeous trees and landscaping, but the people really make it shine. Over the four years we’ve lived here, we’ve gotten to know almost all of the people on our street and quite a few beyond. Our neighbors are incredible and we love chatting and getting together for social events. Even if we lead busy lives, we look out for one another and lend a helping hand when needed. Park Forest is truly a tight-knit community.
We have made so many memories in this neighborhood, from hosting amazing Christmas holidays to celebrating birthdays to surviving the “snowpocalypse.” One memory that really stands out is when we picked up Philly cheesesteaks from Gino’s Deli after closing on our house. We ate on the floor since we didn’t have any furniture delivered yet. It’s turned into a yearly tradition for us to pick up food from Gino’s Deli — just now we eat at the table!
We love how many choices we have in our area when it comes to food, activities and more. We’re just two miles from the acai bowls at Jugo, our friends at H-E-B Alon Market, the margaritas and fajitas at El Mirasol, and the custom cakes for our pups at Woofgang’s Bakery. We’re even closer to the amazing grilling options from Tri-County Meat Market, which is less than half a mile away. A little further down Huebner Road are our favorite biscuits from Alamo Biscuit Company. We also love to go to our neighborhood pool and spend summer days and evenings there.

This past February, I took a pregnancy test and learned our terriers would be promoted to big sisters. Following a few doctor’s visits, my husband and I discovered we were not only having one baby, but two! My younger sisters are twins, and I’ve been told twins skip a generation, so it was such a delightful surprise. We have a little boy and a little girl joining us this October, and we couldn’t be more grateful.
We can’t wait to raise our twins in this loving and caring neighborhood. We can’t wait to show them all of the great eateries and activities we have to offer. We can’t wait for the many memories we will make in Park Forest. It is a great place to live.
