Netflix co-founder and CEO Reed Hastings will make a public appearance at a gathering of local techies May 3.
Hastings is expected to remark on the evolution of Netflix, philanthropy by tech entrepreneurs, the future of media and streaming, as well as improving public education in the United States, according to a press release from Tech Bloc, which is hosting the event in partnership with KIPP Texas Public Schools.
The event will serve as Tech Bloc’s 2019 rally. The local high-technology trade association hosts rallies for its 5,000 business and individual members at least once a year.
“Reed Hastings is truly one of the world’s most disruptive, innovative, and distinguished leaders of our time. His ideas have changed our world forever, and it is a tremendous honor to have the opportunity to bring him to San Antonio,” Tech Bloc CEO David Heard said in a news release. “This is such a unique opportunity for our tech community to learn from an undisputed heavyweight in tech and media while showing Mr. Hastings the new energy of our beautiful city and growing tech scene.”
The rally, which will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Charline McCombs Empire Theater downtown, is open to the public, and admission is free. But tickets are limited. Register for the event here.
In past rallies, the nonprofit Tech Bloc has hosted such speakers as Robert Hammond, the founder of the High Line in New York City, and Nolan Bushnell, who founded Atari and was a video gaming industry pioneer.
