Mission Concepción will host hundreds of Matachine dancers and spectators from San Antonio and South Texas on Sunday, Dec. 3 at 2 p.m.
The colorful tradition, in its fifth year locally, honors the Immaculate Conception Feast Day on Dec. 8. Watch the video above, from a previous year, for more information.
“Dancers will lead a procession to the San Antonio River through Concepción Park and then back to the Mission,” according to a news release from the Archdiocese of San Antonio. “All the groups will dance in front of the Mission, and then each group will enter into the Mission church to offer their dance in front of the historical pantings of the Virgin Mary. In San Antonio many families have three generations dancing together as Matachines.”
Food trucks will be on site for this free, public event. Mission Concepción is located at 807 Mission Rd.
