Luminaria’s momentum that started Thursday at the Hays Street Bridge was not extinguished as celebrations continued to pull hundreds of attendees Friday night to the arts festival at the Carver Community Cultural Center, the Idea Carver Academy, and Dignowity and Lockwood parks.

Attendees, both children and adults, watched performances at all locations, ranging from dance to music by bands of various genres. The evening featured a blend of artwork in many forms that activated the public spaces with light and color. Artists shared their original work, expressing local and personal histories.

The celebrations will continue Saturday with community arts events, artist brunches, and workshops at the Carver Community Cultural Center (226 N. Hackberry St.), The Spire (1174 E. Commerce St.), and Alamo City Studios (1113 E. Houston St.).

The Idea Carver Academy and the Carver Community Cultural Center, Luminaria’s anchor artistic partner, featured work by artists such as Arte y Pasion, Ballet San Antonio, Brandon Cunningham, ARCOS, Cuerpo Etéreo, Diana Kersey and Kambri Hernandez, Dixon’s Violin, and The Three Artistas, among others.

Other arts organizations on site at both locations included the San Antonio Museum of ArtSouthwest School of ArtArtpaceARTS San AntonioBriscoe Western Art MuseumBlue Star ContemporaryWitte Museum, and Children’s Ballet of San Antonio.

Dignowity and Lockwood Parks featured several works also featured at the Carver and other artists such as Verisimilitude, Future Sailor, Joan Frederick, Acts of Kindness, Mexican Step Grandfather, Public Space East, fishermen, among others.
