More than 100 people showed up on Tuesday night to watch the documentary, “Cocktail Culture: City on the Rise.” The film followed local bartender and entrepreneur Jeret Peña through the history and emergence of San Antonio’s craft cocktail scene by interviewing some of the best bartenders in town. Some of whom were on hand to enjoy specialty cocktails with guests and filmmakers – of local production team Kindform – between screenings.

Admittedly, the cavernous venue at 229 E. Houston St. was a bit of an echo chamber during the busiest parts of the film. Some attendees were unable to understand questions, answers, jokes and banter offered up by Peña and others in the film. For those that were straining to hear – and for those that couldn’t attend either screening last night – the 45-minute film will soon be available online and filmmakers plan on taking it to festivals soon.

The event was the Rivard Report’s first public, ticketed event – marking the beginning of what we hope will a long adventure into event planning, giving our readers the opportunity to experience the city and some of its most interesting people.

Special thanks to The Boulevardier Group for helping us host the event and for William Grant & Sons for donating the spirits.
