The Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization will host six public meetings through March 3, allowing residents in the greater San Antonio area to prioritize a list of regional transportation projects that will receive funding over the next four years as part of the 2017-2020 Transportation Improvement Program.
The MPO kicked off its meeting series on Tuesday, and will host the second public meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 24, from 6-8 p.m. at VIA Metro Center Community Room, 1021 San Pedro Ave.

“Not all the projects will make it to the (funding program), but (citizens) can help determine which ones will be funded,” said Linda Alvarado-Vela, MPO planning and public involvement program manager.
Attendees will be asked to complete a transportation survey, in-person or online, to describe their current transportation experiences. A budget exercise will help determine which projects, from bike lanes and sidewalks to capacity and turn lanes, should be funded between 2017-2020.
The MPO has a $100 million budget, but must consider 40 projects that would cost more than $400 million to complete. In addition to public input, the MPO will use transportation statistics and agency priorities to determine the projects funded.
“If you have multiple projects that rank fairly close together on those two scores, you can really start to make a difference in which projects are selected,” said Alvarado-Vela.
Alamo MPO will hold all remaining public meetings at various county locations from 6-8 p.m.:

Thursday, Feb. 25: Leon Valley Conference Center, 6421 Evers Rd.
Tuesday, March 1: New Braunfels Civic Center, 375 S. Castell Ave.
Wednesday, March 2: Boerne Civic Center, 820 Adler Rd.
Thursday, March 3: Guadalupe County Coliseum, 950 S. Austin St. (in Seguin)
