Watch nonprofits take the stage to pitch their ideas and compete for funding on Feb. 19 at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.

Innovation, revenue, and scale are not words most people associate with philanthropy – but this is changing as nonprofits explore new models to grow their impact without relying on donations.

Increasingly, impact organizations are taking cues from startups and building earned revenue models. While this approach leads to a more sustainable impact, nonprofits often struggle to access capital to build and test new ideas. This is where Philanthropitch bridges the gap, connecting impact entrepreneurs to the resources they need to validate new models.

San Antonio’s most innovative nonprofits will take the stage and compete for funding at the second annual Philanthropitch San Antonio, presented by the Bank of San Antonio.

At the event, seven finalists will pitch their ideas to a panel of judges who are business and government leaders from the local community. Both judges and audience members will select the nonprofits they want to support. Nonprofits that participate in Philanthropitch receive more than fundingthey get pitch coaching, increased community awareness, and connections to civic and business leaders.

Building on a year of impact

In 2018, the San Antonio community awarded more than $100,000 to six nonprofits at the city’s first Philanthropitch.

Youth Code Jam, a nonprofit empowering kids of all ages and abilities to learn to code, was selected as the Audience Choice Winner. Founder Debi Pfitzenmaier’s pitch impressed the Philanthropitch judges and corporate supporters. The organization received a total of $50,000 to accelerate its impact across Texas.

“The transformational donation we received at Philanthropitch fueled our ability to scale statewide,” Pfitzenmaier said. “We reached more than 14,000 participants in 2018 alone! Just the visibility from the stage resulted in so many wonderful connections and awareness of who we are and what we do. It was an incredible experience.”

2019 Philanthropitch San Antonio finalists

The seven finalists have been selected based on the sustainability of their revenue model and their ability to scale their impact. Each of these incredible organizations is already making an impact in San Antonio:

The local leaders judging Philanthropitch include Ryan Garner, managing director of Accenture Interactive; Janet Holliday, president and CEO of The CE Group; Corinna Holt Richter, president and chief administrative officer at Holt; David Robinson, NBA Hall of Fame player and co-founder of Admiral Capital Group; Kate Rogers, president of the Holdsworth Center; and Jenna Saucedo-Herrera, president and CEO of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation.
