We’ve seen a lot of changes in 2016, both locally and nationally. Here at the Rivard Report we’ve tripled our staff and expanded our editorial reach. On Jan. 1, 2016 our photo department gained a photographer and videographer in Kathryn Boyd-Batstone from Long Beach, Calif. Kathryn has showered our publication with beautiful photographs and introduced a consistent video presence that has elevated expectations of quality throughout our site.

With Kathryn on staff, we instantly had the opportunity to focus more on visual storytelling, something I couldn’t do alone in 2015.

This year we’ve seen stories from ballet stages to Sikh Gurdwaras, from the cracked pavement of the near Eastside to the dusty Western edge of Texas. We’ve photographed grieving families who’ve lost loved ones, the most decorated Olympian in history, and a national movement that ensnared our deeply divided country.

We take these photos because we are passionate storytellers, but we also photograph because we understand that compelling images provide a window into the heart of our community. Enjoy the images below and stay tuned for more engaging imagery in 2017.
