The annual Holiday River Parade and Lighting Ceremony is a San Antonio tradition celebrating its 34th year, and for many, it is the official kick-off of the holiday season. The event falls on the Friday after Thanksgiving and the 2015 theme is Holiday Memories. Each year the parade is a spectacular event coupled with the annual lighting of the River Walk – millions of Christmas lights illuminating the San Antonio River. Spectators wait anxiously for the one-hour floating parade of professionally decorated and lighted River Barges carrying celebrities, bands and lavishly-costumed participants.
This year, the Briscoe Western Art Museum invites you to make your own “holiday memories” and start a new family tradition by attending its 2nd Annual Holiday River Parade Dinner and Viewing Party on Friday, Nov. 27 from 5-9 p.m. Located on the banks of the River Walk, just steps from the Arneson River Theatre and the heart of the parade, the Briscoe offers a gourmet multi-course dinner buffet and desserts with two drink tickets for beer and wine. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, wassail, and cider will also be available.
Reserved indoor dinner seating will be in the spectacular Jack Guenther Pavilion at the Briscoe. After dining, guests may remain inside to watch the parade on one of two large screens, or choose to step outside beneath the twinkling lights of the River Walk to view the parade from chairs or stools and cocktail tables set up all along the Museum walkway overlooking the San Antonio River. Rain or shine, regardless of temperature, the party will go on and the parade can be viewed in a festive atmosphere either indoors or out!
Prior to the parade’s start at 7 p.m., the galleries of the Briscoe Museum will be open for all guests to enjoy at their leisure. They can take in the three floors of the Museum collections and catch the final days of our special exhibition “The Cowboy Returns: Photographs by Bank and John Langmore.”
At the same time, our own Cowboy Santa will be available for photos in the Clingman Gallery, and the Museum Store will be open for guests wishing to do a little holiday shopping – for themselves or someone on their holiday gift list.
