Christine Carrillo, a Harlandale Independent School District trustee who represents District 2, submitted her resignation Tuesday, days after news broke of her arrest for allegedly physically assaulting her husband during an incident on Christmas Eve.

In a statement, a school district spokeswoman called the episode a “very unfortunate situation” and said that the district understands the severity of the allegations.

“The board will be discussing next steps to accept her resignation and consider the process and timeline for filling the vacancy at the next board meeting on January 10, 2024,” the statement read. “Harlandale ISD appreciates the community’s support as we continue to focus on student success.”

Media reports in recent days detail a family dispute between Carrillo and her son-in-law that reportedly spiraled out of control. Her husband was attacked when he tried to intervene and received scratches on his neck, chest and forearms.

Officers arrested Carrillo despite her husband telling them he didn’t want to press charges, according to a police report that was obtained by MySA.com.
