The H-E-B Feast of Sharing dinner, which draws thousands annually to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, is returning to San Antonio for the 31st time Saturday.
In its entirety, the H-E-B Feast of Sharing series serves more than 340,000 meals at 34 dinners throughout Texas and Mexico, including Houston, Eagle Pass and Midland.
Saturday’s free dinner in San Antonio will start at 11 a.m., during which 1,500 H-E-B volunteers will serve a “Texas-style meal” with brisket and sides before the event ends after 3 p.m. This year, H-E-B is prepared to serve 14,000 people about 3,500 pounds of brisket, 6,750 sausage links, beans, and hundreds of apple pies.
The meal — and event— is for anyone in San Antonio. There will be live music, entertainment and family-friendly activities, like letters to Santa and face-painting.
H-E-B Pharmacy will also provide free wellness screenings and flu shots, in addition to another 20 social service booths from local organizations.
VIA Metropolitan Transit will give free rides to the event, including its mainline bus service, VIA Link and VIAtrans service. No ID or paperwork is needed: When boarding, just inform the operator that you’re attending the Feast of Sharing and you’ll ride fare-free.
Those who ride VIAtrans will be dropped off and picked up at 900 E. Market Street. For more information on routes and scheduling, call 210-362-2020.
More holiday food distribution
On Tuesday, Dec. 26 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., the San Antonio Food Bank will host a curbside pantry at the San Antonio Food Bank headquarters at 5200 Enrique M. Barrera PKWY, Entrance #2.
On Wednesday, Dec. 27 from noon to 1 p.m., Emanuel United Methodist Church at 3225 W. Poplar Street will also host a food drive.
For those who live outside of San Antonio, on Jan. 9 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., the San Antonio Food Bank will host a food drive at the Medina County Fair Hall, located at FM 462 in Hondo.
No proof of residency in San Antonio is needed for the distributions.
