Frontier Airlines on Tuesday announced the addition of nonstop flights from San Antonio International Airport to Salt Lake City and Orange County, California.
The flights aim to bring leisure and business travelers alike to Orange County’s John Wayne Airport beginning Aug. 13 and Salt Lake City’s International Airport beginning Aug. 15. In addition to the new routes, Frontier announced it will dedicate one of its new Airbuses to the city and allow residents to select an animal for the back of the plane through the SAT Plane Tail promotional contest.
With special introductory rates starting at $29, the low-cost carrier has now added a total of 25 flights out of San Antonio International Airport, which serves a total of 54 flights.
“The greater San Antonio and Central Texas communities continue to respond well to our Low Fares Done Right philosophy,” stated Daniel Shurz, senior vice president of commercial for Frontier Airlines. “We are proud to continue our commitment and show our pride in serving this community by dedicating a plane to San Antonio.”
Airline representatives stated in a press release that the new flights will bring service to some of the nation’s top tourist attractions, including Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm in California. Service to Salt Lake City will give San Antonians access to top rated parks and other outdoor opportunities in the city, they added.
The SAT Plane Tail contest will work in two rounds. Participants have five animals to choose from in the first round: an armadillo, axis deer, coyote, longhorn steer, or ocelot. After selecting an animal to adorn the tail end of the plane, residents will have another opportunity to name the animal.
Participants will be randomly selected for prizes, including vouchers and 25 round-trip tickets – a total of 50 round trip tickets in all – to any of Frontier’s nonstop locations out of San Antonio.
“Today’s news shows that Frontier is committed to this market and that they are here to stay,” said Russ Handy, aviation director for the City of San Antonio. “Getting passengers involved in its latest promotion signifies a true community partnership.”
