As we head into the fall and winter seasons, seasonal expenses, unexpected costs and changes in household budgets can make it harder to keep up with monthly bills. For some households, energy costs can add another challenge to an already tight budget. If you’re having trouble managing your energy bill, CPS Energy has resources that can help.

Now is a good time to look at your account and understand what resources may be available before a past-due balance becomes a larger concern. Whether you need short-term flexibility with a payment, ongoing assistance, or simply have questions about your account, reaching out early can help you understand your options.

If you’re struggling with a past-due balance, the Residential Energy Assistance Partnership (REAP) may be able to help.

REAP is a partnership between CPS Energy and the City of San Antonio and Bexar County that provides financial assistance to qualifying households. Eligible customers may receive up to $480 in utility bill assistance each year. Customers can learn more about eligibility and how to apply through the CPS Energy website.

Sometimes, you don’t need financial assistance — you simply need a little more time. CPS Energy also offers payment arrangements that can extend a payment date or spread a past-due balance across future bills. This option can provide flexibility when an unexpected expense makes it difficult to pay your full balance at once. Customers who need help figuring out which option works for their situation can call us at 210-353-2222.

For households managing a limited income, even a little breathing room in the monthly budget can make a difference. The Affordability Discount Program provides qualifying customers with a monthly discount on their electric and gas service. Eligibility is based on household income and other circumstances, including age, disability, medical needs, children in the household or the percentage of household income spent on energy.

Because every household is different, there isn’t just one solution that works for everyone. Some customers may qualify for financial assistance, while others may benefit from a payment arrangement. Taking a few minutes to explore the available resources can help customers determine which option may best fit their needs.

CPS Energy Assistance Finder can help connect customers with programs that may fit their circumstances. The Assistance Finder allows residents to submit one application and be considered for multiple bill support programs, making it easier to explore available assistance in one place. Customers can then review their options based on their individual circumstances and determine which programs may be available to them. Customers can also call us to speak with someone about available options.

Don’t wait until your account becomes a concern. Whether you need short-term flexibility ongoing assistance or simply have questions about your account, CPS Energy encourages customers to explore available resources. Visit the CPS Energy assistance page to explore available programs and resources or contact us at 210-353-2222 if you need help finding the option that’s right for you. We’re here to help you stay connected to the energy you need throughout the fall and winter.
