This past election season brought a lot of fresh faces to City Hall. With a new mayor and six of 10 council seats now occupied by first-term members, San Antonio’s municipal government is experiencing a surge of new perspectives and priorities.
In an effort to foster productive conversation on local politics, municipal policy, and civic engagement, the Rivard Report will host “Conversations with the Council,” a series aimed at spurring dialogue in all corners of the city.
Rivard Report Publisher Robert Rivard and Editor-in-Chief Beth Frerking will spend time with residents of each council district and their respective representatives over the coming months to discuss San Antonio’s present and future challenges and opportunities.
“The Rivard Report had a great event with Mayor Nirenberg shortly after he took office, and we now invite our readers and members of the public to attend one-on-one interviews with each of the 10 City Council members,” Rivard said. “All of the events will take place at destination venues in the respective districts, and all will include audience questions and answers.
“I’ll serve as moderator at some of the events, and Beth Frerking, the Rivard Report‘s new editor-in-chief, will moderate the others. This is a great opportunity for voters to get face time with their Council representative and meet others in their district who are civically engaged.”
On Saturday, District 3 Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran will join Frerking at the Texas A&M-San Antonio auditorium for a community discussion regarding the new Council, San Antonio’s future, and District 3’s role in it. Doors open at 10 a.m. for a brief reception with refreshments and the conversation will begin at 10:30 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Audience members will guide the morning’s conversation and can tweet questions before and during the event using the hashtag #d3convo. To RSVP for the event, click here.
