Roughly 358,000 Bexar County residents cast early in-person ballots or the 2022 midterm election, compared to roughly 380,000 in 2018, according to the Bexar County Elections Department.

Polls closed for early voting at 8 p.m. Friday. It was the busiest day of early voting with roughly 48,600 ballots cast compared to roughly 34,900 on Thursday, the second-highest day.

Election Day voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday Bexar County voters may cast their ballot at any of the county’s 302 voting centers.

Lagging turnout has perplexed county election officials, who anticipated significant interested in the midterm after voter registration rose 11% from the 2020 presidential election.

But Bexar County’s numbers track with the rest of the state’s 30 largest counties, which were roughly 563,000 votes short of their 2018 early voter totals as of Thursday, according to data provided by Republican political analyst Derek Ryan.

Bexar County elections officials anticipate more than 150,000 voters will cast their ballots here on Election Day.

Locations with the highest early vote totals included Brookhollow Library, Encino Branch Library, Great Northwest Library, Igo Library, Maverick Library, Parman Library at Stone Oak, Northwest Vista College, Semmes Library and Tobin Library at Oakwell, with each reporting more than 10,000 ballots cast.
